Angus Gilmore was found on fire outside the block of flats where he lived in St Pancras, central London, on Saturday, a Scotland Yard spokesman said.

Neighbours threw blankets and water over him to quench the fire. He was taken to a specialist burns unit at an undisclosed hospital but they were unable to save him.

A woman in her 30s was arrested at the scene and has also been taken to hospital where she remains under police guard.

"Her condition is not life-threatening," said the spokesman.
