IMF team for Pakistan next week

The International Monetary Fund the IMF has announced it will send a mission next week to Pakistan to discuss possible resumption of loans.

An IMF spokesman said the team will be in Pakistan for about two weeks assessing its economy.

A proposed visit last month was abruptly postponed.

The BBC corrspondent in Islamabad says Pakistan has already missed some foreign debt repayments and it needs five billion dollars to get through this financial year.

Ourcorrespondent says the government may have to make more concessions to the IMF, which suspended loans as part of sanctions imposed after Pakistan conducted nuclear tests in May.
