Spain approves Noye extradition case

Spain has agreed to begin the extradition case of Kenneth Noye, wanted by UK police investigating the road rage killing of Stephen Cameron.

The UK application will be heard at Spain's high court, the Audiencia Nacional, in Madrid.

A preliminary hearing has been set for 16 November, where Mr Noye and his lawyers will have the chance to voice any objections to his extradition.

The judge in charge of the case is Baltasar Garzon, who applied for the extradition from London of Chile's former dictator General Pinochet.

Mr Noye, 41, was arrested in the town of Barbate in southern Spain on 29 August.

He is wanted for questioning over the fatal stabbing of 21-year-old Mr Cameron in May 1996 after an argument with a motorist on a slip road off the M25 in Swanley, Kent.

A date for the full extradition case to be heard will be set at the preliminary hearing.

The court will then give its decision, probably in written form two weeks later.

If the court rules against extradition, Mr Noye will be free to stay in Spain because under Spanish law, only he has the right of appeal against any decision.
