The director of Brazil's Central Bank, Gustavo Franco, is flying to Washington today to meet International Monetary Fund IMF officials in order to finalise details of a financial aid package.

The IMF, the World Bank, the United States government and other international agencies are offering some thirty billion dollars in loan agreements in an effort to shore up the Brazilian economy.
