Another Spanish test for Liverpool

Liverpool's 2-2 away draw against Valencia was enough to see them through

Liverpool have been handed another Spanish test in the third round of the UEFA Cup, while Glasgow Rangers face a clash against Parma at Ibrox.

The Merseysiders line up against Celta Vigo - the conquerors of Aston Villa - after their away goals win against Valencia in the last round.

The first leg will be played in Spain on November 24 with the return leg at Anfield a fortnight later.

"They looked a good side in beating Villa and we will give their manager, John Gregory, a ring to ask for any help he can offer," said joint Liverpool manager Roy Evans.

"Our coach, Sammy Lee, has good contacts in northern Spain from the time he played out there and he'd already been told how good a side they are. The first leg is crucial, it would be nice to come away with a lead and an away goal - that certainly helps for the home game."

Rangers, meanwhile, are at home against the Italian giants, who won the competition in 1995 and are currently lying fifth in Serie A, four points behind leaders Juventus.

Dick Advocaat: "A very difficult draw"
The first leg will be played at Ibrox on November 24 with the return leg in Italy a fortnight later.

"Before the last round, people were saying Leverkusen were a better side than us. But if you can beat a team like Leverkusen, then you have to think you have the makings of a good side," said Rangers boss Dick Advocaat.

"Of course the Italians are strong, but we haven't lost so far in Europe this season. It is good for our Italian players and I know they are looking forward to the tie. Perhaps, though, it might have been better to get Parma in the later stages of the competition."

Parma have the best defensive record in Italy's Serie A, having conceded just two goals in seven games. They beat Fiorentina 2-0 last week with both goals from Argentine Hernan Crespo and Colombian international Faustino Asprilla, formerly with Newcastle, is struggling to win a regular place in the side.
