Tony McNulty
Date of birth 3 November 1958 Political profile Tony McNulty was an unexpected winner in 1997 of a formerly safe Tory seat. He proved himself to be one of the most enthusiastic new MPs, and was extremely active both in the constituency and in the Commons. A former leader of the Labour group on Harrow Council, he has a strong interest in local government (and the London Assembly), but his main political passion is education on which he spoke almost exclusively for his first year in Parliament. He is loyal to the Blair government, and often illustrates it through aggressive denunciations of political opponents inside and outside the Labour Party. He was appointed a Whip in 1999 after having served as a parliamentary private secretary to David Blunkett, and was reappointed following the 2001 election. He joined the newly formed Office of the Deputy Prime Minister as a Parliamentary Under Secretary in the 2002 reshuffle. In June 2003 he moved to the Department of Transport and was promoted to minister of state in the September 2004 reshuffle. Contact 020 7219 2807
