Thousands of workers from across Belarus have demonstrated in the capital, Minsk, in protest against food shortages and living conditions.
Calling President Lukashenko a disgrace, the demonstrators marched on his official residence and demanded higher wages.
A Belarussian opposition group Charter 97 said eight people were detained by police.
Correspondents say Belarus -- which has resisted market reforms -- has suffered mounting economic problems in recent months.
