Jailed Timorese publishes poetry

The jailed East Timorese resistance leader, Xanana Gusmao, has published a collection of poems written since his imprisonment by the Indonesian authorities six years ago.

Mr Gusmao's work traces the history of the people of East Timor, which was invaded and annexed by Indonesia in the mid-1970's.

The poems were written over a two-year period in the Cipinang prison in Jakarta.

Mr Gusmao was awarded a prize for his poetry in 1973, when East Timor was still under Portuguese rule.
