Aniston settles privacy case

Friends actress Jennifer Aniston has settled her privacy case against two magazines that published unauthorised photographs of her sunbathing topless.

Aniston and her lawyers reached an undisclosed agreement with the legal representatives for the magazine's publishers in a Los Angeles Court on Tuesday.

The actress was accompanied by her movie-star husband Brad Pitt for the three-hour, closed meeting.

Aniston sued Man's World Publications and Crescent Publishing Group for printing the pictures taken of her at home in the tabloid magazines Celebrity Skin, High Society and Celebrity Sleuth.

The settlement was announced by US District Court judge Ronald SW Lew, who acted as a mediator between the two sides.

"The attorneys have had the opportunity for further discussions, they met with their clients and have perfected a settlement. This matter has been resolved," Mr Lew said.

A condition of the settlement was that neither side could disclose its terms.

Aniston and Pitt were in court to listen to Mr Lew make his statement.

They were quickly whisked away once proceedings were over without speaking to reporters.

Lawyers for both sides said they were satisfied with the outcome of the case.

"We think the settlement is in the best interest of both sides. This is an amicable settlement," said Aniston's lawer Jay Lavely.

When Aniston launched her case she was said to be seeking unspecified damages and a ban on further distribution of the pictures.

Her legal action claimed the magazines violated her right to privacy after the photographer climbed a neighbour's eight-foot fence to take the pictures.

The pictures also appeared in the Italian magazine Eva Tremila, the English newspaper Daily Sport and the French publication Voici.

Aniston had already settled her legal cases against Celebrity Sleuth and photographer Francois Navarre over the pictures.
