Electoral commission in Kazakhstan rejects Kazhegeldin's candidacy

The electoral commission of Kazakhstan has rejected an application by the main opponent of President Nursultan Nazarbayev to register as a candidate in the presidential elections, planned for January the tenth.

The election commission said Akezhan Kazhageldin was not fit to apply to be a candidate because of charges that he had taken part in an unregistered meeting.

He has the chance to appeal before formal registration begins on November the tenth.
