Sue Doughty
Sue Doughty

Date of birth

13 April 1948

Political profile

First elected to the Commons in 2001, Sue Doughty is trained as a teacher, but has actually spent most of her working life as a management consultant.

She has worked with most of the "big five" consultancies, giving her more high level business experience than many of her Lib Dem colleagues.

Nonetheless, her political interests are very much those of her party, with transport and environmental issues being her main focus.

She first became involved in politics in 1979 in a local campaign against a Tory council seeking to build waste dumps next to housing.

Charles Kennedy accordingly appointed her an Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokesman soon after her election.

She also sits on the Environmental Audit select committee.
