Warning to Chinese men with mistresses

Officials in the Chinese city of Guangzhou have issued a warning to all married men who keep mistresses that they could be sent to labour camps unless they change their ways.

The city authorities say they could face up to three years without trial in a labour camp for what is described as re-education.

Officials say the move have been prompted by growing levels of bigamy and co-habitation with mistresses in Guangzhou.

The BBC Beijing correspondent says it is particularly easy for men from Hong Kong, who can maintain wives or mistresses both there and on the mainland without the authorities being aware.
