Indian police kill communist guerillas
The police in India say they have shot dead four Communist guerrillas in the southern state of Andhra Pradesh.
They said the four were killed in an encounter near the village of Nerella. The incident happened a day after the People's War Group, or the PWG, an Indian communist rebel organisation, threatened to walk out of peace talks if the police action continued against the guerrillas. More than 6,000 people have been killed during the PWG's violent 20-year campaign to establish a communist state. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
