Arrests in Punjab rape case
Police in Pakistan's Punjab province have arrested eight people in connection with the gang-rape of a teenage girl in a remote district not far from the city of Multan.

A police official told the BBC that those arrested were members of a self-styled tribal jury that ordered the rape.

But he said the four people alleged to have committed the rape were still at large.

Reports say the incident happened when a locally convened jury Panchayat - made up of members of an influential clan - ordered the girl to be raped as punishment for her brother's illicit relations with a woman of a different social status.

A journalist, who visited the area, said the girl was still in a state of shock.
