Ann McKechin
Ann McKechin

Date of birth

22 April 1962

Political profile

Ann McKechin, prior to her election, was a solicitor working in Glasgow, and is a former chair of the Glasgow Kelvin Labour Party.

She stood unsuccessfully for the Scottish Parliament on one of the party's regional lists.

She signed a petition calling on that Parliament to resist the potential effects of further WTO liberalisation on Scotland's health service.

Despite these strong Scottish credentials, her major political interests lie beyond the UK in the field of international development.

She served as the Scottish representative in the World Development Organisation, and is a long serving and respected campaigner in the field.

At a Labour conference prior to the election in 2001, she championed a motion calling for greater regulation of the arms trade.
