Diana Organ
Diana Organ

Date of birth

21 February 1952

Political profile

One of Labour's new Commons entrants in 1997, Diana Organ had a long career in Labour party activism behind her before being entering the House.

She is one of the more independently minded backbenchers, with a focus on local issues such as housing and planning.

She is loyal to the government on most national issues.

But she abstained from the vote on cuts to single parents' benefits.

She is also a fluent debater and a tough Commons presence.

She is very interested in agriculture, with a rural constituency, and since 1999 has sat on the agriculture select committee and its successor.

Besides her constituency work, she has campaigned against unnecessary hysterectomies.
