Cairo students in protest

Hundres of students have staged a demonstration against an alleged decision by Cairo University to exclude them from student union elections.

The students allege that university officials who vet candidates have disqualified many students who belong to opposition parties.

The protestors were supported by the banned Muslim Brotherhood, along with several legal opposition parties.

Reports say that anti-riot police surrounded the university and prevented the students from spreading out into nearby neighbourhoods.
