Sierra Leone's ex-president found not guilty of treason

A court in Sierra Leone has delivered its verdict on twenty-one people accused of treason for collaborating with the former military government which was ousted by West African peacekeepers earlier this year.

It found the most prominent defendant -- former President, Joseph Momoh -- guilty of conspiracy to commit treason, though not of treason itself.

Fifteen civilians were convicted of treason.

Sentences are expected to be passed tomorrow.

Five other defendants were acquitted, including a former spokesman for the Revolutionary United Front, Jibril Massaquoi, and a cleric, Victor Ajisafi.
