Jordan shuts down TV station

Reports from Jordan say the press credentials of the Qatar-based satellite television station, the al-Jazeera Satellite Corporation, have been revoked.

The move came hours after the station broadcast a programme attacking the government and accusing King Hussein of conspiring with Israel.

The Information Ministry said it insulted the Jordanian people and the political regime.

The state-run Petra news agency reported that the office will remainclosed until its anchorman apologises for the attack.

No news organization or journalists are allowed to function in Jordan without press credentials.
