International Criminal Court
UN peacekeeper
The latest news from the Balkans is that the Americans are not, after all, going to pull their troops out of Bosnia, if they don't get their way on the International Criminal Court. At least, not immediately. But they still refuse to countenance the idea of their citizens being tried by an organisation which much of the rest of the world supports. We heard from Paddy Ashdown, who has gone from leading the Liberal Democrats to being the International High Representative in Bosnia, and from Washington.

Crime
The government wants to try to cut crime by paying released prisoners to go straight. The idea is that if prisoners were made to sign an agreement that they'd go straight, and had a better financial cushion on release, they'd be less tempted to go back into crime. But wouldn't this be rewarding criminals? We brought together the Home Office minister responsible, Lord Faloner, and the Shadow Home Secretary Oliver Letwin.

Creationists
And the creationists are on the march again. The latest attempt to supplant the theory of evolution in schools is called Intelligent Design. The argument goes that life shows evidence of an informing hand behind it. Despite being rubbished by mainstream scientists, at least one school board in the United States is considering inserting Intelligent Design into the science curriculum.
