The European Union Foreign Affairs Commissioner, Hans van den Broeck, has submitted a report on EU enlargement to the European Parliament.
Itassesses the progress made by candidates for entry in advance of next month's enlargement summit in Vienna.
Mr van den Broeck said the six countries engaged in fast-track negotiations still face a huge task before being ready to join the EU.
These are Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Estonia, and Cyprus.
He singled out the Czech Republic and Slovenia, saying they needed to speed up the adoption of EU laws.
