Political profile Liz Blackman was first elected in 1997 and has a solid background in local government, with particular experience in bringing together government and businesses to facilitate economic regeneration. She also has a significant knowledge of education, having been head of the upper school at a large comprehensive. Ms Blackman began her progress up the political ladder when she was nominated to the Treasury select committee (replacing Diane Abbott).
