Clive Efford
Date of birth 10 July 1958 Political profile Clive Efford, perhaps surprisingly the first registered London taxi driver to become an MP, is a backbench loyalist who is nonetheless unafraid of asking difficult questions. Having also served as a Greenwich councillor, he has a strong interest in transport strategies, both in London and nationally. He repeatedly called for the government to take on a more direct role in, and responsibility for, the running of Railtrack. As the MP for the area in which Stephen Lawrence was murdered, he also takes a leading part in anti-racist activism. He is a strong campaigner too on environmental matters, and especially energy conservation. Outside politics, some of his own energies has used as leading striker in the Commons football team.
