In Brazil, thirteen people are thought to have died in fighting between gold prospectors and members of an indigenous community on the Tumucamaque reserve in the northern state of Amapa.

The Amapa office of the government run NationalIndian foundation FUNAI says ten gold prospectors along with an Indian woman and child were killed in the fight which broke out when the prospectors trespassed within the reserve.

Brazilian government authorties refuse to confirm or deny the reports until investigators have reached the area.
