John Barrett
John Barrett

Date of birth

11 February 1954

Political profile

John Barrett has a long history in Scottish politics. He served on Edinburgh City Councill as the Lib Dems' transport Spokesman, and contested Linlithgow for the Scottish Parliament.

It was, however, his stint as election agent for Donald Gorrie which helped him break through to Westminster, as he inherited the seat of Edinburgh West when Gorrie chose to concentrate on Holyrood.

He has a background in business as the director of his own company producing corporate videos.

He has also served as a long term director of the Edinburgh Film Festival.

He sits on the International Development select committee.

Mr Barrett is also a member of Greenpeace, Amnesty International and the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.
