Derby want Sparky

Mark Hughes(centre) was a prolific scorer at Manchester United

Derby have confirmed they are interested in former Manchester United and Chelsea striker Mark Hughes.

Southampton forward Hughes has failed to hold down a regular place at The Dell since moving from Chelsea in the summer.

County manager Jim Smith is desperate to add experience to his attack and believes Hughes, who was recently 35, would fit the bill.

"We have been in negotiations with the players' agent," a Rams spokesman said on Wednesday.
