Nigel Waterson
Date of birth 12 October 1950 Political profile Nigel Waterson retook Eastbourne for the Conservatives in 1992, after the Liberal Democrats had won a 1990 by-election. Mr Waterson has yet to rise above middle ranking spokesmanships. He served as parliamentary private secretary to Michael Heseltine in the last years of John Major's government, before becoming a whip under William Hague. He also served as a local government and transport spokesman, where he portrayed himself as the friend of the driver. He then served as a trade and industry spokesman before being returned to the backbenches in the 2002 re-shuffle. His calls for widespread deregulation are the same measures which he has long been proposing to revitalise the hotel business of his tourism dependent seat.
