Brazil withdraws ambassador to Colombia

Brazil has recalled its ambassador and sent a protest note to the Colombian authorities over the alleged use of a Brazilian airstrip by the Colombian airforce.

Brazil says the use of the airstrip was linked to Colombian efforts to regain control of the town of Mitu, close to Brazilian border.

The police post at Mitu was captured by guerrillas from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia FARC on Sunday, and fighting is continuing in the area.

The guerrilla attack comes only days before peace talks are due to take place between the government and the FARC.
