Wednesday, November 4, 1998 Published at 17:20 GMT World: Africa Tunisia rejects Amnesty allegations Tunisia has rejected allegations by the human rights organisation, Amnesty International, that it has constantly harrrassed and intimidated activists who try to promote human rights in the country. In a BBC interview, a government spokesman, Ossama al Ramdhani, said that the human rights activists and lawyers named in the Amnesty report had all broken the lawz, and that was why they were imprisoned. He accused Amnesty of being unjust in its latest conclusions, and in previous reports. He also accused some Amnesty members of being politically and ideologically biased.
