Re-trial in chef death case
Khaliur Rahman died a month after being attacked
A judge has ordered the re-trial of a man accused of murdering a chef after the jury failed to reach a verdict.
The jury deliberated for four days in the case of Christopher Cucchiaro, 26, and were discharged by the trial judge on Friday. Mr Cucchiaro, of Dolphin Court, Chester, had been accused of murder along with David Dennehy, 27, Linden Avenue, Connah's Quay, Flintshire, Wales. Mr Dennehy was cleared on Thursday during a trial at Birmingham Crown Court. Mr Cucchiaro will now be re-tried later this year. Home curfew The pair were both accused of attacking Khaliur Rahman, 57, outside the Birmingham tandoori restaurant where he worked. The trial had heard how Mr Rahman, of Pershore Road, Selly Oak, Birmingham, was attacked as he left the Taj restaurant at the end of his shift. The father-of-five suffered internal bleeding and died a month later in hospital. Mr Cucchiaro was given bail, on condition he lives at his home address and observes a 2200 BST to 0600 BST curfew.
