Man accused of raping patient
Police car
Police arrested the man on Friday morning
A 46-year-old man has been accused of raping a patient as she lay in a hospital bed.

Maurice Anthony Stephen Castillo, 46, of North Avenue in Ealing, west London was charged with the rape of a 60-year-old woman.

He will appear before magistrates in Ealing on Saturday.

It follows an alleged attack in the Brent Ward at the John Connolly Unit of the West London Mental Health Trust, on Friday 21 June.

'Profound questions'

It is the second reported rape in a London hospital in the past two months.

Detectives are investigating the rape of a 71-year-old woman in a separate incident at King's College Hospital on 1 May.

She was pushed to the floor by a man in a toilet in a mixed sex ward.

Health Secretary Alan Milburn told MPs in the House of Commons last week the alleged incidents raise "profound questions" for the NHS.

But he warned against turning hospitals into prisons.
