The United Nations has set up a Hurricane Mitch Information Centre, with a comprehensive report on damage in Honduras and the relief operations underway. The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (Fema) has a special site Stormwatch recording all the hurricanes which have battered the region this year. It also offers up to date information on Mitch and how to prepare yourself should you find yourself in the path of a hurricane. Hurricanes98 provides information and updates on active hurricanes worldwide. Storm98 is co-sponsored by Fema. It contains detailed reports on Mitch and its aftermath. It also has a wealth of audio, marine reports and satellite and radar pictures. The Disaster Center also offers satellite images of the Gulf of Mexico. The site includes advice and numerous links to sites about hurricanes and other natural disasters. The National Hurricane Centre offers detailed forecasts of storms in the area as well as satellite pictures of the Gulf of Mexico.

Aid to stricken areas Various Websites have joined the calls by Central American countries for aid. Disaster Relief offers widespread coverage of Mitch and other disasters across the world. It also provides an overview of organisations involved in disaster relief and how donations can be made to them. Relief Web provides recent news and information from the countries devastated by the floods. The American charity Mercy Corps also highlights the damage caused by Mitch and the efforts under way to deliver food and supplies to the storm's victims. The International Service Agencies is an umbrella organisation representing over 50 humanitarian aid agencies. Its site contains information about its members working in Central America and involved in the relief operation. The University of San Pedro Sula in Honduras has pictures of the devastation and lists the aid supplies needed by the country. |
