Czech police find German mayor's body

Police in the Czech Republic say they have discovered the body of the mayor of the German town of Roeckingen.

Erich Kunder had been missing since March and his body was found in a forest on Wednesday.

A Czech policeman, wearing a mask and refusing to give his name, apparently for fear of retribution from crime gangs, said that Mr Kunder was known to have picked up a prostitute on a road near the the German border.

The policeman said the prostitute then took Mr Kunder to an apartment in the Czech town of Cheb, where he was attacked by two men.

Five thousand dollars were charged to Mr Kunder's credit card on the night he disappeared and, three days later, his car was found in Belarus.

Three people have been detained in connection with the case.
