Iain Luke

Date of birth

8 October 1951

Political profile

Like so many Labour MPs, Iain Luke is a former further education lecturer, and a local government stalwart - he was leader of Dundee City Council for two years in the early 1990s.

First elected to the Commons in 2001, he was quick to establish himself with a nice line in witty and fluently delivered speeches.

He is also strongly pro-European, but the focus of all his political activities is Dundee; he is an assiduous defender of the city and its inhabitants, and uses every available parliamentary platform to promote its virtues.
