Police trace teenager's final steps
Christopher Shaw
An examination showed Mr Shaw had drowned
Police are appealing for help to trace the final movements of a teenager found drowned in the River Tees.

Christopher Shaw, 18, went missing after a night out in Stockton-on-Tees on 23 June.

He was last seen waiting for a taxi outside the Zanzibar nightclub in the town centre at 0200 BST.

Mr Shaw's body was discovered near the Millennium Bridge by a passer-by on Friday.

Car park

Police say there appear to be no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death, but are anxious to discover exactly what happened.

His body was found in an area that was in the opposite direction to where he lived.

Police say that there has also been another sighting of someone fitting Mr Shaw's description who appeared to have collapsed in the car park of the nearby Mecca Bingo Hall.

Inspector Eric Robinson told BBC Radio Cleveland Mr Shaw's family were "shattered" by his death.

School friends

He said: "We have had quite a number of people coming forward with positive sightings of Christopher in certain places along the High Street.

"Another person who has come forward may have seen him on the Mecca Bingo car park.

"All of these sightings are being followed up.

"We do need to trace his last movements. We all need to know what happened to Christopher and how he ended up in the River Tees."

Mr Shaw had been on a night out with some old school friends on the night he went missing.
