In pictures: Bollywood at the V&A
The Indian film industry is enjoying a surge in popularity around the world as Bollywood films compete with mainstream movies.
The Victoria and Albert Museum in London is holding an exhibition dedicated to all things Bollywood including posters and contemporary works of art. Here are some images from the exhibition.
Mother India (1957) tells the story of a family's struggle to survive against the evil money lender
This poster for Kaagaz Ke Phool (1959) shows romance has longed played a major role in nearly all Bollywood films
Although made in 1975 Sholay continues to entertain audiences in India
After 1948 the film industry sought to define India's identity through historical blockbusters
The exhibition features bill posters from as early as 1913 through to the 1970s
Bollywood cinema audiences have always loved a hero
