Ipswich diary: Carol joins the relay
Breakfast weather presenter Carol Kirkwood in Cardiff
Carol says the only exercise she gets normally is walking to the car
Breakfast's weather is out on the road this summer, following the route of the jubilee baton relay.

Find out what happened when Carol Kirkwood ran part of the relay course, in her Ipswich diary

What a thrilling day.

Having chatted to two of the Baton Runners, Karen Pickering and Bob Williams, during the course of the programme, and watched how quickly and effortlessly they completed their leg of the relay, I must say I did feel a tad worried.

After all, the only exercise I get is walking to the car.

My fears were groundless. I put on the kit and instantly felt part of the team.

It was really exciting waiting for Lucy, the runner before me, to arrive. And she did in great style with a police escort holding up the traffic.

Escorted by police outriders

As she passed the baton I took a moment to synchronise my heartbeat with it, then off I went with my police escort and outrunner.

To say it was exhilarating, is an understatement.

Seeing the crowds waving and cheering me on as I ran was just the best feeling in the world.

I felt like a top flight athlete. And then, too soon, I was passing the baton on to Bradley.

Running a leg of the Queen's Jubilee Baton Relay has got to be the hightlight of the last couple of weeks for me, and I feel proud and honoured to have done it.
