Eight arrested for Pakistan bombing

Police in Karachi say that eight people -- including three Palestinians and two Sudanese -- have been arrested as part of the investigation into the recent bombings of the American Consulate and a hotel in the city.

The police say that the men were arrested in two separate raids on Wednesday in the Karachi district.

The police operation is the latest in their attempts to track down the culprits responsible for the bombing earlier this month of the American consulate in which 12 Pakistanis were killed.

In May, a suicide bombing outside the Sheraton Hotel in Karachi killed 11 French engineers on a bus and three other people nearby.

The latest raids were mounted after al-Qaeda fighters killed ten Pakistani soldiers in a clash on Wednesday near the Afghan border.

The Pakistanis say that two al-Qaeda militants were killed.
