Rosemary McKenna

Date of birth

8 May 1941

Political profile

Rosemany McKenna was first elected to Parliament in 1997, in time to help the Commons turn one of her most cherished political ideals into reality.

She was for a long time one of the leading campaigners for a Scottish Parliament, and remains very interested in constitutional reform.

A former teacher and long serving councillor and council leader, she has recently turned her attention to female representation in Parliament and has called for the law to be changed so that fully equal representation of the sexes can be achieved.

She is also interested in international development, and in debt relief.

She served before the 2001 election as a PPS to Foreign Office ministers, but lost the role after the 2001 reshuffle.
