Claire Curtis-Thomas
Date of birth 30 April 1958 Political profile Claire Curtis-Thomas won Crosby on a huge swing in 1997 to become the first ever Labour MP for the seat, but did not make an immediate impact in the Commons because she gave birth to her third child soon after the election and took six months off from Parliament. Since her return, she has been a leading campaigner for improved facilities and family-friendly working hours in the Commons. She has concentrated largely on promoting the causes of science and education, inspired by her previous job as Dean of the University of Wales' Engineering and Business Faculty. She is also a strong supporter of animal welfare. Contact Constituency office 0151 928 7250 curtisthomasc@parliament.uk
