Coach crash

One teenager has been killed and several others seriously injured in a coach crash in France.

The coach was carrying children and teachers from Largs Academy in Ayrshire who are thought to have been travelling through France to Barcelona.

They left Scotland yesterday on a school trip.

Strathclye Police have set up two emergency phone lines: 0141 532 2828 and 0141 532 2829

Details are still emerging and Breakfast will bring you more as we get them this morning.

One child is confirmed dead and a total of 11 people have been injured, six of them seriously.

The accident happened at around 5am this morning. The coach is believed to have crashed on a slip road to the A6 at Bierre Les Semur, near Beaunes in Burgundy.

The injured were helicoptered to Dijon and Auxerre.

Most of the children were asleep at the time: the coach had set off from Scotland the day before.

One teacher who was travelling on the coach rang her parents at home, to tell them what had happened.

No other vehicle was involved and driving conditions were good at the time, according to local police.

The Foreign Office says that consular officials are trying to establish what happened and contact the relatives of those involved.
