French coach boosts Ginola

David Ginola - feared his international career was over

Tottenham star David Ginola has been given renewed hope that he may still have a future at international level.

French coach Roger Lemerre has given a clear indication that he may be about to recall the 31-year-old to their national squad.

Ginola has 17 caps, but fell out of favour with Lemerre's predecessor Aime Jacquet and was not included in the 22 for the World Cup finals.

But Lemerre told the London Evening Standard: "I brought David into the French set-up first of all. I've known him since he was a boy.

"Ginola is a creative player. He's cultivated a style that's skill for skill's sake and it is one of the ingredients of success. Of course, he must make the effort for them team, but I believe he makes that effort."

France have failed to impress in their European Championship qualifying matches since lifting the World Cup with victory over Brazil during the summer.

"Ginola is a wonderful creator of opportunities and he has incredible imagination. Either you take him for what he is or you don't take him at all. If you take him as he is, you've got a great artist," Lemerre added.
