Political profile

A former sub-editor on women's weekly magazines, Shona McIsaac first won Cleethorpes for Labour in 1997, defeating Michael Brown.

She has not developed a particularly high profile within the Commons, preferring to concentrate on her constituency, where she is extremely active on local issues.

Her forays in the Commons tend to reveal a super loyal backbencher; she regards it almost as a duty to support the government's agenda.

Her most animated moments come when attacking the Conservatives as much on grounds of perceived arrogance as on policy issues.

Her loyalty was rewarded with an appointment in 2000 as PPS to Adam Ingram at the Northern Ireland Office; following the 2001 election, she took on the same role for his successor, Jane Kennedy.
