Colombia rebels ambush army


Reports from Colombia say left-wing rebels of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia FARC have ambushed reinforcements sent to a remote southeast region, where the FARC over-ran a police post on Sunday.

Up to a hundred soldiers, police and FARC members are reported to have been killed in the new fighting.President Andres Pastrana held a two-hour meeting with commanders of the armed forces after cutting short a visit to Venezuela on hearing of the guerrilla offensive.
