The UK dumps enough old tyres a year to stretch half way round the world

The Environment Agency is warning that Britain could be swamped with illegally dumped tyres, when new EU rules come into force next year.

It fears that an increase in the cost of disposing of tyres will boost the black market - which has already created huge waste dumps around the country. About 50-million old tyres are thrown away in the UK each year.

This morning, Breakfast reported from one of the biggest tyre dumps in the country.
