Health Secretary Frank Dobson is a cheerful Old Labour man, popular in the party. Before Labour's election win, he gained a lot of experience in the shadow cabinet in education, employment, transport, London and health. He went to grammar school in York, followed by the London School of Economics. As Health Secretary he promises to shorten waiting lists and improve services. He has already ended the NHS internal market and tried to build new hospitals with private partnerships. He was embarrassed when he tried to end tobacco advertising and sponsorship and it came out that Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone had given Labour £1m. Before becoming MP for Holborn and St Pancras he was leader of Camden Council in north London. Frank Dobson is married to Janet and has two sons and a daughter.
