Crawley and Hussain lead England fightback

Stewart: Confirmed return to fitness in nets

John Crawley and Nasser Hussain have put together a solid partnership as England try to stave off defeat at the hands of Western Australia.

At tea England were 120 for 2 - needing 162 runs in the final session to seal victory - but Crawley was caught by Katich for 65 just after the break.

The Lancashire man became the latest England batsman to make an impression on the Ashes tour.

Hussain: suffered nasty blow on the helmet
All of England's specialist batsmen, except the injured Mark Butcher, have made valuable runs in the opening state game.

Set 282 to win by Western Australia's declaration just before lunch on the fourth day in Perth, Crawley kept England in the game.

In Butcher's absence Dominic Cork was drafted in as opener but he lasted only two deliveries.

But Crawley and acting skipper Hussain, who survived a blow to the helmet, ensured there was no English collapse.

The home side earlier declared at 268 for three in their second innings, after bowling the tourists out for 321.
