England set tough target ![]() The Waca is home to England's first state match of the tour England have been set 282 runs for victory in their opening state match against Western Australia at the Waca. Dominic Cork, pushed into action as an emergency opener, lasted only two deliveries as England reached 11 for one at lunch. Mark Butcher was able to net for the first time since being hit on the head on Sunday but still did not feel well enough to open. Cork knew nothing about the fast-rising delivery he fended to gully. Western Australia declared their second innings on 268-3 after adding 98 runs to their overnight score in 25 overs. The two wickets to fall to England were both claimed by off spinner Robert Croft as Justin Langer and Ryan Campbell perished to catches in the deep chasing quick runs. Campbell's spectacular innings of 146, which came off 147 deliveries and included 23 fours, ended when he lofted Croft to substitute fielder Peter Such on the long-on boundary. England latest: 123-3 (Thorpe 24no, Ramprakash 0 not out). |
