Mark Field
Date of birth 6 October 1964 Political profile Mark Field, elected for the first time in 1997, is the Parliamentary neighbour of his long-term political ally Michael Portillo. His own fight to be selected in the Cities of London and Westminster attracted some attention itself, with allegations that an unfairly right-wing shortlist had emerged. Mr Field is constitutionally conservative: he was an opponent of devolution, and has claimed that reform of the House of Lords will lead to calls for an end to the monarchy - an outcome he deplores. Nonetheless, he is not as hawkish on social issues as some of his colleagues, with a liberal view on homosexuality. He cites Andrew Bonar Law and Richard Nixon as his political heroes. Prior to his election, he headed his own publishing and recruitment business. He fought Enfield North in 1997. He currently serves as shadow minister for London.
