Tuesday, November 3, 1998 Published at 13:16 GMT World: Americas Fight for the condor An international effort is underway to try to save the condor from extinction in Venezuela. Two Andean condors, which were born and raised in an Argentine zoo, have been sent to Venezuela where they will be released into the wild together with two female birds from the United States. The director of the project team in Venezuela told the BBC that the birds would wear electronic tags to allow them to be monitored. She said it was hoped the birds raised in captivity would breed with the wild condors which can be found in greater numbers in Colombia. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
